Spring 2010

Hello! After ten years of visiting eastern Washington in the fall, I am looking forward to seeing the mountains in springtime again! This time, I am planning a more leisurely visit, so I have selected just two of my favorite projects to share with you.

Disappearing NinePatch

This is a very fun and easy project for beginning quiltmakers, but it's interesting enough for those of you with more experience. The technique will surprise you with its simplicity. It can be made from just a few fabrics or from scraps, and it's fast, too! Depending on which size you make, you might finish the quilt top right there in class.

Also during this all-day workshop, there will be demonstrations of some special rotary cutting and piecing techniques, with plenty of handouts!
Near the end of the day, I will cover layering, basting and basic machine quilting techniques for beginners.

You will enjoy it!

Double Wedding Ring

This classic quilt is for those of you with some sewing experience. It will help if you can use a rotary cutter, operate your sewing machine and maintain an accurate 1/4" seam allowance. The pattern is cut with templates and a rotary cutter, and it's sewn together in the traditional method with a simplified assembly technique.

There will be two sessions to this class. In the first one, you will make templates and cut enough pieces to get started on the piecing.  In the second class, you will work on more piecing and assembly, and we'll discuss the binding.

I have always wanted to teach this class, so I have been working on the pattern and making prototypes for the last year. The pattern will permit you to make a wall quilt, a bed quilt, or a tablerunner. I think you will find this a "do-able" project!
